TAMBURI AD ACQUA

tubofono
Tamburi ad acqua- sound installation in Villa Petraia- Italy

TAMBURI AD ACQUA was a sound installation by F.lli FORMAT -arhitetture sonore ( Mechi Cena, Jorge Martinez, Francesco Michi)
1989

The “water drums” are sound machines, mechanical tools which make sound making water drops fall on tense membranes.
The rhythm is complex, the scanning of the time of the single drops is intentionally very slow, so to make difficult to perceive recognizable rhythmic sequences.
The drums are actually machines which insert themselves in a much wider mechanism, which is the ecological system of the lake in which they are installed and in that of the whole garden all around. Their way of participating in these systems is very light: the weak sound they utter forces the listener to increase its attention, making him aware of the other sounds of the environment and also of the acoustic pollution of the towns in which we are used to live.
The attention in search of the sounds to be “tasted” arranges the visitor to live, even if for a few moments in the day, an aesthetic experience in relationship with sound architecture.
