	To the need to protect one's eyes from too strong a luminosity for a long time various ways have been provided, the most usual of which are sun-glasses. These are an ordinary object, so common that it has become also a frivolous, a status symbol, a habit, a vice. But it is undoubtedly a need to defend ourselves from too intense a light. In our age, especially in cities, another sense of ours is subjected to sometimes too strong a stimulation: it is hearing. The reports about the acoustic pollution in our cities are disquieting, the limits that our legislation imposes on the intensity of noises are indiscriminated and inadequate to defend us from its disastrous consequences.So, it might become a need for us, to use an apparatus able to filter sounds, as sun-glasses do with light. And it might become so urgent, that this apparatus may become not only useful, like the headsets always used by workers subjedted to acoustic stress , but also nice to see, a vain or valuable object so that it might be delightly weared. Imagining a similar possible, future I have made, and asked some sculptor friends to make several objects which answer this purpose. Now I have a little collection and a catalogue. We have produced, and are still producing, these objects in various forms which filter the sound in various degrees according to the different needs. Obviously this is a metaphorical operation. In the present we cannot wear these objects free-and easy, as well as they really function. To simulate this need by inventing a design object, is meaningful especially if it is able to make one reflect on a real and present problem. I propose to present an exibition of five or six models together with a catalogue which illustrates the whole collection and also the meaning of the operation. I should like to specify, in order to avoid any misungerstanding, that I don't want an object wich necessarily funtions: we want to move in a petic and symbolic universe. The sun-glasses defend us from the sunlight; the Auricoli defend us from the acoustic pollution. But, unlike the sunlight, which is a natural and uneniminable phenomenon, acoustic pollution is an exqiositely human product. So we hope that the we'll be able to find a solution quite different from this one.
